Lets do something a little different on The Whole House today! We are going to talk about a little DIY project and hopefully help you have an inspired Monday!

This year for christmas our budget was tight (when has it not, been am I right?) So I decided to do HOMEMADE PRESENTS! Woohoo!! Homemade presents are the best right? And since I was really ambitious and thought I could conquer the world and make everyone the perfect gift I headed to pinterest to get some ideas. I already had the main idea in my head, wooden signs. I love wooden signs! I mean how could you not?? LOOK!

I made a 22″x22′ square sign and hand painted it. I headed to lowes to pick up my supplies. Here is my supply list.

• 1 – 1x6x8
• 1 – 1x4x8 (you can also use a 1×3 or 1×2 for this board)
• Gorilla Wood Glue
• 1.25” brad nails or finish nails

I had the wood cutting guy at lowes cut my boards for me. (THEY DO IT FOR FREE PEOPLE!) I had them cut:

• 4-1×6 at 22″
• 2-1×4 at 22″
• 2-1×4 at 15″

 

I then brought all of my supplies home and started staining my wood. Like I said I was on a budget to I used a homemade wood stain that was AWESOME! You can find it here. (http://www.blesserhouse.com/2015/01/the-most-natural-inexpensive-way-to.html)

After staining my wood I lined the 4 1×6 up and made a square, I then took a the 2 1×4 that were 22″ and the 2 1×4 that were 15″ and laid them on the back of the square as if to frame it. 

I glued the “frame” on the back and then nailed in a few finishing nails.  I flipped it over and I was done with the building!! Now on to the painting. I hand painted my signs, so they weren’t perfect but I was okay with that. Some people prefer to use stencils, thats fine! Its for you house, do what you want! In the end mine looked like this.
