Fast- The Big Finish

I ended the last Monday’s post with Mom lacing up her combat boots and entering the fray of every day life with the armor intact and a generous covering of prayer.  I’m ending the fast from negativity on that positive note.

“Look carefully then how you walk!  Live purposely and worthily and accurately, not as the unwise and witless, but as wise (sensible, intelligent people),
Making the most of the time [buying up each opportunity], because the days are evil.
Therefore do not be vague and thoughtless and foolish, but understanding and firmly grasping what the will of the Lord is.”  Ephesians 5: 15-17

Pray the prayers in Ephesians.  Pray positive prayers for your children and don’t negate your prayers like I sometimes do.  It’s easy  to form the habit of  positive prayer and then nullify with negativity by rehearsing in the mind or aloud:

He left all his clothes on the floor again!
He’ll never listen.
He’ll always struggle with ________.

Accentuate the positive.  Find something to praise in the child and then thank God for that while you wait for progress in other areas.  Pray with thanksgiving (Philippians 4:6-8).

Some awesome events have taken place during my November fast from negativity.  Here’s just a few:

Ania and Hunter saved $77.00 in change for Feeding the Orphans
Rafal hugs me every morning.  He loaded the dishes for his ‘do over’ without complaining
Damian rescued Hunter when he had a flat tire, buying the tire and having it put on while Hunter worked his shift at Panera
Gregory helped a single mom pay for groceries and an elderly lady who was 15 dollars short (He works at Shop-n-Save)
Ania is my kitchen-craft-organization-walking-talking-buddy
Audrey is my Christmas-elf, writing cheerleader, daughter-friend
Amerey is a merry heart is good medicine, she makes my heart merry and shares my heart for orphans, volunteering for Feeding the Orphans

Positive Prayer -The Home Stretch

Fasting Negativity- the final week!

It’s easy to fall into a trap that baits us with an ideal that our children should have holy behavior and walk in the fruit of the spirit all the time.  The trap snaps down on flesh with the bait of expectation, ripping the soul asunder-the more we fight it, the more we injure ourselves and our families.

One of the reasons I am fasting negativity is that TRAP.

Life on the home field during the Thanksgiving/Christmas season can be fleshy to say the least, especially with super sugary sweets, late nights out at Grandma’s (Ni Ni’s) and too much empty free time. Everyone walks around with proverbial eighties half-shirts on, their fleshy middles hanging out- the unrenewed sin nature loves to muffin top all over everyone.Sin lurks around every corner, enticing, beckoning, looking scrumptuous.  It lies.

In the letter pertaining to family relations Screwtape tells Wormwood:

“When two humans have lived together for many years, it usually happens that each has tones of voice and expressions of face which are almost unendurably irritating to the other.  Work on that.”- The Screwtape Letters

Mom needs to wake up every morning, lace up her combat boots, put on her armor, pray and dive into the day with a fresh spirit of wisdom and revelation of her calling and remember Christ has put everything under His feet, not the children, but the Gluboses and Wormwoods (demons) harassing her household.  The victory is assured even though the battle rages on-the souls and the spirits of the children are more paramount than anything on this earth.  Cars, jobs, homes, careers, health, clothes, fabulously wrapped gifts, perfect pine trees, carefully iced cookies, jewels- they will all fade away,  if our own flesh and blood are not in heaven for eternity then woe. WOE. Anguish. Not that we can choose for them, but we must endeavor, sweat blood if we must to make it the most viable option for them.

Positive Prayer

Fasting Negativity- day 18

Positive Prayer

I regularly pray Ephesians 1:15-23 for my family. I insert the names of my family members in the phrases that apply such as:

[For I always pray to] the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, that He may grant you – insert names for ‘you’ and continue the prayer.

We become new creatures when we are born again (II Cor. 5:17).  We have gifts and talents endued by our Creator, but our soul has not been renewed.  We don’t know Him-we’ve just met, His dominion, power is not dwelling in our innermost personality. That is why this powerful prayer is vital!

Jesus yearns for us to use our special bent, gifts, talents and abilities for kingdom purposes.  We are not to be clones going through the religious motions of monotony of with no depth or passion.

It may be difficult to be a missionary Mom to a tribe of newly saved former heathens (who still act that way) until Mom changes her perspective. It is endearing to see chubby kindergarten hands folded in prayer with curly tousled head bowed, but not too astounding when the angelic face puckers up and screams for what the flesh wants moments later.  His soul is not saved.  The soul is three parts- mind, will and emotions.  It must be renewed. Each new creature need to have the eyes of their heart flooded with light so he may know and understand the hope to which He has called him (vs.18).  It is a life long process.  Repetition.  Scripture memorization.  Prayer.  Encouragement. Pray the Scripture.

The Fast

The Fast
Positive Prayer?

Oh Avoidance,
How I love thee!
I love thee, let me count the ways-
I love you in the morning when I make excuses.
I love you at noon time because I am tired and hungry.
I love you when three o’clock comes and the day settles in for the eternity before dinner and I need to exercise.
I love you at dinner time, because I am the one who has to make it.
I love you in the evening when I need to write, plan school or finish up chores before bed.
Did you know I loved you so much?
  Alas, my heart is broken!
You mock me!
You deceiver!
Avoidance, you are a liar and a cheat!  You delay me, divide my interests. With you there is no real escape.  The weight of conviction follows my flight.  You leave my home in ruins.  You leave my soul disquieted.
I’m leaving you or you are leaving me.  I have had enough!
Nothing is too difficult for me to do if God is leading me to do it!
He gives us more and more grace (power of the Holy Spirit, to meet this evil tendency and all others fully).  this is why He says, God sets Himself against the proud and haughty, but gives grace [continually] to the lowly (those who are humble enough to receive it).  James 4:6
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.  Get out of my way Avoidance, step away procrastination, I am going to make dinner!

Sincerely,
Me

*Note:  I wrote this letter while thinking about my topic for speaking to a Mom’s group tomorrow,my musing for all to see.  Being a stay at home mom is like running a business, but many don’t see it that way.  Even though this is humorous, I have learned to do what I need to do when I need to do it (mostly, I am still a human bean (yes, I said bean- it’s from a book, do you know which one?).  I’m thinking back to my early days of housewifery and what most often kept me from my inner priorities being lived out in my outer man. Thoughts?

The Fast

Fasting- Negativity, day 12

This week  I am focusing on positive prayer.

There are so many negative things going on around us that it takes herculean effort to be positive.  I have to do it on purpose.  I have to be positively prayerful at all times.

Pray at all times (on every occasion, in every season) in the Spirit with all [manner of] prayer and entreaty.  To that end keep alert and watch with strong purpose and perseverance, interceding in behalf of all the saints (God’s consecrated people).  Ephesians 6:18

Negative news calls for prayer.  When I see a post on facebook about the government, failed health care issues, sickness, suffering – I pray.  It does God no good for us to sink into despair.  Despair is a tool of the devil.

Faith. Hope. Encouragement. Prayer Words are full of power. Praying God’s Word is the most powerful prayer. These are God’s tools.

I have strength for all things in Christ Who empowers me (I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him Who infused inner strength into me: I am self-sufficient in Christ’s  sufficiency].  Philippians 4:13

Whatever mission God has given you- do it.  Don’t look to the left or the right or fall back in fear to lick your wounds.  Keep marching.  If it is to write- keep writing. If it is to sing- keep singing.  If it is to teach-keep teaching. Keep praying positively!

Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants made known to God.  Philippians 4: 6

Just a note:  Paul wrote the letter to the Philippians from jail, Rome was a waning empire destined to fall because it was built on false gods and the people of the day were apathetic and social pursuits became more important than governing themselves.

One last note from What if Jesus had Never Been Born:
“Should we not be concerned for the poor?  Absolutely, Local churches, private charities, families being concerned about people, community charities helped people-these have been the ways that America solved this problem for almost 300 years.  but now we have tried something else.  We have decided to help the poor through the socialistic method of government intervention, which has never worked anywhere else.”
